Thousands of Actors and Writers Set to Strike Over AI Fears
More than 170,000 actors and writers are poised to strike this week, putting film and TV production on hold indefinitely. Major studios such as Disney, Netflix and Amazon will be impacted. Affected projects include the Beetlejuice sequel, Deadpool 3, Jurassic World 4 and the next Mission Impossible.
The strikers are demanding increased pay, guaranteed work, and assurances that AI won't replace their jobs. But the studios argue the unions' asks are unrealistic given industry challenges. With neither side budging, Janice Min warns "if this goes on for a long time, you will feel it across the whole internet."
Christopher Nolan has vowed not to make films amid the strike. A-listers backing the walkout include George Clooney, Emily Blunt and Matt Damon. The strike raises an interesting debate over humans vs. automation in Hollywood.
